Strings of Excellence: The 2023 Mirecourt International Violin Competition

Open to violinists of all nationalities who were born after November 4th, 1997, the Mirecourt International Violin Competition, organized by Jeunesses Musicales de Mirecourt, is scheduled to take place from November 4th to November 12th, 2023, in the scenic locations of Mirecourt and Thaon-les-Vosges, France.

The roster of contestants for this year's competition includes:

The esteemed jury for the 2023 competition will consist of Christian Altenburger (Austria), Nora Chastain (USA), Hu Kun (China), Alissa Margulis (Russia), Mihaela Martin (Romania), Lavard Skou-Larsen (Brazil), and Marianne Piketty (France).

Prizes for the competition winners include €5,000 for first place, €3,000 for second place, €1,000 for third place, and €500 for fourth place. Additionally, there will be several special prizes, such as the Modern Bow Prize worth €4,000, a prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary piece, an award for the best interpretation of the French sonata, and the Special Prize of Contemporary String Instrument Manufacturing, which includes a two-year loan of a violin by David Wiedmer.

Notable previous first prize winners from the competition's last edition include Nathan Mierdl, Jian Ren, Yuna Ha, Roman Kholmatov, Yuliia Van, and Qingzhu Weng.
