In other words, the Bern Symphony Orchestra has made an announcement that the renowned Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbański will be taking on the role of Chief Conductor, starting from the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

Prior to this appointment, Urbański served as the Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2021 and held the position of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2017. His tenure with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra was so highly regarded that he was honored with the title of Guest Conductor of Honor upon its conclusion.

Furthermore, Urbański has also held significant roles as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra from 2012 to 2016 and as the Principal Guest Conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra from 2015 to 2021. In November 2022, he was appointed as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana.

Nadine Borter, the president of the Bern Theater's Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm about the orchestra's decision, stating, "We have succeeded in bringing a top-tier musician to the Bern Symphony Orchestra. This is precisely what we aimed for: an exceptionally accomplished artist from the younger generation, whose distinct musical vision and remarkable talents, along with a stimulating and innovative repertoire spanning classical and modern music, will enable us to continue along our chosen path and, in doing so, attract new audiences."

"Throughout the past several years, I've been greatly impressed by the Bern Symphony Orchestra's unwavering commitment to constant growth through dedicated discipline," added Urbański. "I believe I've found the perfect partner in Krzysztof Urbański."

Urbański expressed his delight at accepting this appointment and his eagerness to collaborate closely with the Bern Symphony Orchestra. He remarked, "I am looking forward to a productive partnership with the orchestra's musicians and the entire BSO team. During my initial interaction with the orchestra, I sensed a strong musical connection, which I hope will develop into a wonderful relationship."

He also expressed his excitement about experiencing Bern, describing it as a beautiful and tranquil place filled with warm and kind-hearted people. He looks forward to building a connection with the audience by offering diverse and engaging programs at the Casino Bern and sharing his profound passion for music with them.
