Березень 15, 2024

Italian conductor Enrique Mazzola has been chosen by the Lyric Opera of Chicago to extend his tenure until 2031, a role he assumed in 2021.

During his time as Music Director, Mazzola has overseen numerous acclaimed performances, including David McVicar’s interpretation of Verdi’s Macbeth. Noteworthy productions also include Christopher Alden’s rendition of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman (featuring Tamara Wilson and Tomasz Konieczny) and the Chicago debut of Champion, composed by six-time Grammy Award winner Terence Blanchard.

Originally from Barcelona but raised in Italy, Mazzola specializes in bel canto opera, French repertoire, and early Verdi. In addition to his responsibilities in Chicago, he has held the position of Principal Guest Conductor at Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2018.

Recognizing his longstanding connection with the Bregenz Festival since 2016, Mazzola was appointed as the festival’s inaugural Conductor in Residence in May 2022. Previously, he served as the Artistic and Music Director of the Orchestre National d’Île de France.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership, Mazzola stated, "Chicago has become my home, my ‘opera family’, and I am so excited about the future for the organization." General Director Anthony Freud echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Mazzola's leadership and the company's ability to deliver exceptional seasons.
