Royal Ballet and Opera Unveils Vision for 2024/25 Season: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

Over the past three centuries, Covent Garden theater has stood as a hub of cultural activity in London. Hosting esteemed institutions like The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, it has been a cornerstone of artistic expression. Now, in a move to streamline its identity, the Royal Opera House will adopt the unified name of the Royal Ballet and Opera starting from the 2024/25 season.

CEO Alex Beard expressed the company's commitment to creating art that evokes profound personal and societal reflections. Supported by a vast network of over 23,000 Friends, Patrons, and partners, the Royal Ballet and Opera looks to the future with assurance, fueled by the generosity of its supporters.

With a fresh logo reflecting its new identity, the company's upcoming season promises a diverse array of performances. Among the highlights is the world premiere of "Festen," a contemporary opera based on Thomas Vinterberg's acclaimed film, featuring notable talents such as Allan Clayton and Gerald Finley.

The season will also feature Leonard Bernstein's seminal operas "Trouble in Tahiti" and "A Quiet Place," staged for the first time at Covent Garden. Additionally, a new production of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin," directed by Ted Huffman, will grace the Main Stage.

In the ballet realm, audiences can anticipate captivating productions like "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" and "The Mad Hatter's Tea Party," catering especially to young audiences through the Schools’ Matinee program. Other highlights include the European premiere of "MaddAddam," inspired by Margaret Atwood's trilogy, and Ballet Black's exploration of heroism and identity in "The Ballet Black: Heroes."

Furthermore, the season will showcase contemporary ballet works by acclaimed choreographers like Kyle Abraham, Crystal Pite, Pam Tanowitz, and Joseph Toonga, blending classical and hip-hop influences. Joseph Sissens will take center stage in "Legacy," alongside events like International Draft Works and the Next Generation Festival, celebrating emerging talent from around the globe.
