Villa Senar: The Swiss Summer Home of Composer Sergei Rachmaninov Opens to the Public for Limited Dates
April 4, 2023

Villa Senar, which was the Swiss summer ho of the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov, is to be opened up for the public for a variety of dates. The ho, which stands on the banks of Lake Lucerne, was built in one thousand nine hundred-thirtieth in the Bauhaus style. It's named for both Rachmaninov and his wife — "Senar" being made up of "Se" ( Sergei), "Na" ( Natalia), and a final R for Rachmaninov. The couple d the villa as a summer ho between one thousand nine hundred thirty-three and one thousand nine hundred thirty-nine, and the space retains Rachnaminov's original piano. In two thousand twenty-second, both the land and the ho were purchased by the Canton of Lucerne for as a cultural center. The Canton is working alongside the Serge Rachmaninoff Foundation to create the ho open to the public at certain times, so that people can obtain a glimpse into the composer's life. In general, the ho is only open by appointment — but there are several provisional dates in May two thousand twenty-three when the Foundation will open the ho to the public.

They are:

Sunday May fourteen, 11:00am to 6:00pm

Saturday May twenty, 11:00am to 6:00pm

Sunday May twenty-one, 11:00am to 6:00pm

Sunday May twenty-eight, 11:00am to 4:00pm
