The Stuttgart International Violin Competition 2024: Showcasing Young Talent, Prestigious Prizes, and Unforgettable Performances

The Stuttgart International Violin Competition, organized by the Guadagnini Foundation and the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, welcomes violinists from around the world who are 28 years old or younger.

The total prize money for the 2024 competition is 60,000 Euros. The winner of the first prize will receive several significant performance opportunities, the loan of a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin from 1746, and artist management for the following three years.

The jury for the 2024 competition will consist of Ingolf Turban (President), Shmuel Ashkenasi, Ulf Wallin, Hagai Shaham, Suyoen Kim, Rudolf Koelman, Dr. Harald Eggebrecht, Josef Rissin, and Stefan Fehlandt.

To apply, applicants may record an application video in three takes. The performed pieces should be complete without any cuts. The required repertoire includes:

  1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
    First Movement and cadenza from one of the following violin concertos:
    G major, KV 216
    D major, KV 218
    A major, KV 219
  2. 2. Niccolò Paganini
    Two caprices from the collection "24 Caprices for Solo Violin," Op. 1
    The selection of caprices in the application videos should not be repeated in the first round of the competition.
    The competition consists of three rounds. The first two rounds will be accompanied by a piano, while the final round will feature partial accompaniment by the Lotus Quartett and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Bastian.
