The Atlanta Opera Attains 'Budget One' Status and Celebrates 45 Years of Artistic Excellence
December 31, 2023

The Atlanta Opera has achieved a standing reserved for only the top 10 opera companies in the nation as it approaches its 45th anniversary. Preceding the 2024-2025 season, the company has attained "Budget One" status, reflecting a $15 million operational budget.

This shift results from consistent growth in ticket sales, audience engagement, and fundraising efforts. Tomer Zvulun, Artistic Director of the Atlanta Opera, emphasized that while the status is noteworthy, he takes greater pride in the opera community's exceptional spirit.

"What sets the people apart is their unwavering commitment to excellence, consistently delivering outstanding performances despite the persistent challenges the world throws at us—whether it's a pandemic, war, or recession," remarked Zvulun.

As the opera approaches the new year, it still has a few performances remaining in the current season. Zvulun highlighted the upcoming production of The Valkyrie, a part of Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle, which has already garnered significant attention.

"There's interest from across the country and around the world," he stated. "The Ring Cycle appeals to avid enthusiasts, drawing Wagner aficionados who travel globally to witness these productions, as they are seldom undertaken by opera companies."

The Atlanta Opera will conclude its ongoing season in May, with details about the upcoming season's performances set to be unveiled in January.
