The 2024 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition: Celebrating Opera Excellence and Emerging Talent

The 2024 laureates of the International Vocal Competition by The Gerda Lissner Foundation have been unveiled.

In the realm of Opera, countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen clinched the prestigious Liederkranz Foundation Award. Among the division's other triumphant voices are baritone Yeongtaek Yang (First Prize), bass-baritone ByeongMin Gil (second prize), mezzo-soprano Maire Therese Carmack (third prize), and soprano Karoline Podolak (Judge’s special prize).

Within the Operetta and Zarzuela domain, soprano Shelen Hughes secured the coveted First Prize Scott Barnes Memorial Award, while mezzo-soprano Rosario Armas claimed the second prize.

Grants were bestowed upon Tatev Baroyan, Gabrielle Beteag, Matthew Cairns, Alice Chung, Jana McIntyre, Gemma Nha, Jazmine Olwalia, Joseph Sacchi, and Yichen Xue. Additionally, Encouragement Awards were granted to Susanne Burgess, Joanne Evans, Evan Gray, Melissa Joseph, Donghoon Kang, Emilie Kealani, and Julia Stuart.

Esteemed judges for the event included Michael Benchetrit, Ken Benson, Maestro Mark Shapiro, Dona D. Vaughn, and Midge Woolsey.
