June 15, 2023

After an extensive twelve-month search and audition process, the Pavel Haas Quartet has selected Šimon Truszka, a violist from Slovakia, as their newest member.

Truszka, who was previously part of the Kukal Quartet, received his education under the guidance of Jan Pěruška at the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague. He has also been a member of the European Youth Orchestra and the BE Phil, and has been recognized as a laureate of the Prague Spring International Competition.

Truszka has showcased his talent in renowned concert venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

With his inclusion, Truszka joins the existing members of the Pavel Haas Quartet, namely violinists Veronika Jarůšková and Marek Zwiebel, as well as cellist Peter Jarůšek. Established in 2002, the quartet has earned recognition as one of the top 10 greatest string quartets of all time by BBC Music Magazine.

The quartet has been acknowledged as a Rising Star by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO) and held the title of BBC New Generation Artist from 2007 to 2009.

"We are delighted to announce the appointment of Šimon Truszka as our new violist, after a year-long, intensive search," shared the quartet on social media. "Welcome aboard, Šimon, and let us embark on a marvelous journey together through the captivating world of music."

"I am deeply honored, thrilled, and grateful for the opportunity to join this internationally renowned string quartet," expressed Truszka. "I eagerly anticipate the joy of sharing music with the Pavel Haas Quartet."
