The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) music director, Manfred Honeck, and president and CEO, Melia Tourangeau, have chosen PSO's first violinist, Justine Campagna, to be the assistant concertmaster. Campagna, who joined PSO in the 2018/19 season, will take up her new role immediately and will also temporarily serve as the associate concertmaster until that position is filled. Before joining PSO, she has held various positions in other orchestras, including associate concertmaster of the Kansas City Symphony and the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and concertmaster of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Mansfield Symphony, and National Philharmonic.

In addition to Campagna's appointment, two other musicians have been named to new positions at PSO: Michele Hembree has been appointed as the second horn, and Douglas Rosenthal will serve as the associate principal trombone. Both of them will commence their roles at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

Furthermore, PSO's assistant conductors, Moon Doh and Jacob Joyce, have been promoted to the position of associate conductor.

Together with PSO board chair Anthony L. Bucci, the PSO and Tourangeau have introduced 11 new members to the board of directors: Michele R. Atkins, Wendy Herlands Barensfeld, Alexa Forte, Julie Gulick, Christopher J. McComish, Abby Morrison, and Christine Toretti. The ex-officio members of the board include Dr. Quintin B. Bullock, Father Paul R., Taylor, O.S.B., Ph.D., Dr. Michelle Patrick, and Dr. Wayne Walters.

Melia Tourangeau expressed her joy in announcing the appointments, highlighting Justine Campagna's exceptional talent and leadership as assistant concertmaster, and expressing confidence in Michelle Hembree and Douglas Rosenthal to make significant contributions to PSO's concerts and recordings. Tourangeau also expressed gratitude for the 11 new board members, recognizing their generous and dedicated support, and their shared belief in the bright future of the Pittsburgh Symphony and Heinz Hall for generations to come.
