LA Opera Presents: Noah’s Flood – A Harmonious Collaboration of Professionals and Community Musicians
7 April, 2024

Professional artists alongside over 300 amateur members of the Los Angeles music community collaborate under the guidance of James Conlon to deliver two complimentary, family-oriented presentations of Benjamin Britten’s “Noah’s Flood.”

Featuring accomplished vocal soloists such as baritone Ben Lowe portraying Noah, mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell as Mrs. Noah, and bass-baritone Patrick Blackwell lending his voice to The Voice of God, the performances will be accompanied by the LA Opera Orchestra and local instrumentalists. Eli Villanueva directs the production.

Adapted from a 15th-century play, “Noah’s Flood” narrates the Old Testament tale of a family, alongside a menagerie of animals, uniting to confront a life-altering storm.

Thanks to the generous support from the Dan Murphy Foundation, LA Opera is able to stage “Noah’s Flood” and offer it to the wider Los Angeles community free of charge. The shows are scheduled for May 3rd and 4th at 7:30 PM.

Since 2007, the company has annually presented community productions at the cathedral, with this being the seventh rendition of the Britten opera within its walls.
