Garsington Opera is pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Williams as the new Director of Artistic Administration. Michelle, currently serving as the Head of Casting at English National Opera (ENO), will join the Garsington team in September. She will be succeeding Laura Canning, who has been appointed as the General Director & CEO of Opera North.

Michelle has held the position of Head of Casting at ENO since 2016 and has previously worked at Scottish Opera in various roles, eventually becoming the Head of Casting. She studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is also a fellow of the Clore Leadership Programme.

Douglas Boyd, the Artistic Director of Garsington Opera, expressed his delight at Michelle's appointment, emphasizing the significance of this time in the company's history, particularly with the opening of Garsington Studios. He praised Michelle's extensive experience and skills, which will be crucial in further supporting young artists, community engagement, and maintaining the artistic excellence of the Festival. Boyd also conveyed his confidence that Michelle will be a worthy successor to Laura Canning, wishing her the best in her new role at Opera North.

Michelle Williams herself expressed her excitement about joining Garsington Opera as the Director of Artistic Administration. She looks forward to collaborating closely with Executive Director Nicola Creed and Artistic Director Douglas Boyd, both of whom she greatly admires. Michelle highlighted the company's exciting prospects with the upcoming opening of Garsington Studios, which will enable Garsington to not only continue delivering world-class productions in partnership with The English Concert and Philharmonia but also to have a year-round presence in the community and the wider opera landscape.
