Yura Yang, who has served as the primary conductor at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe since 2020, will transition to the same role at Oper Leipzig starting from the upcoming concert season. In addition to her role as a conductor, Yang has also held the position of assistant to the general music director at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe since December 2022.
Yang, a graduate of the Detmold University of Music and the University of Music and Theatre Munich, commenced her career as a solo répétiteur with conducting responsibilities at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen from 2012 to 2018.
During the 2014/15 season, she received a conducting scholarship from the Bergische Symphoniker, and the subsequent year, she was selected for the Conductors’ Forum of the German Music Council and named among the "Maestros of Tomorrow" in 2019.
Beginning in 2018, Yang served as Kapellmeister at the Kiel Theatre and as a musical assistant to its general music director. In 2019, she advanced to the position of first kapellmeister and deputy general music director at Theater Aachen.
Her recent conducting engagements include performances at prestigious venues such as Semperoper Dresden, Brucknerhaus Linz, Aalto-Theater Essen, and leading symphony concerts at theaters across various German cities including Erfurt and Gießen. Moreover, she has made guest appearances in Linz, Essen, and Dortmund.
Oper Leipzig, with its staff of over 600 individuals, stands as the largest cultural institution within the city. Yang will have the privilege of collaborating with the renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra, which has accompanied all opera and ballet performances in Leipzig since 1840.
