The bicentenary of Johann Strauss will be celebrated in the year 2025. To honor this significant milestone, the Vienna Philharmonic has extended an invitation to Maestro Riccardo Muti to once again lead the orchestra's annual New Year's Concert.
The collaboration with Maestro Muti, which commenced in 1971, has resulted in more than 500 joint performances. These include six New Year's Concerts, Philharmonic subscription concerts, memorial concerts, guest performances, tours, and numerous opera productions. A notable highlight of the 2024 season will be the special concerts commemorating the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony, conducted by Muti.
Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, underscores the conductor's exceptional role within the orchestra's history, stating, "Riccardo Muti has held a unique position in the annals of the Vienna Philharmonic for over 50 years. As an honorary member since 2011, Muti has significantly contributed to shaping the repertoire and distinctive sound of the ensemble."
