Top Prizes Awarded at American Traditions Vocal Competition: Nia Drummond Takes Gold

Nia Drummond claimed the top prize at the American Traditions Vocal Competition. The soprano earned the Gold Medal along with a $12,000 reward, sponsored by Danny Cohen. Throughout her career, she has performed with notable artists like Sir Elton John and John Legend, and has sung for three U.S. presidents.

The Silver Medal was awarded to countertenor Jesse Nager, who also received a $6,000 cash prize, courtesy of Diana Lee Lnager Jones. Nager is the founder and Artistic Director of Broadway Boys and has performed in productions such as Motown, Scandalous, Xanadu, and Mary Poppins.

The Bronze Medal went to soprano Emily Redden. Baritenor Tally Sessions took fourth place, while fifth place was awarded to Schyler Vargas. Vargas has performed with the Wichita Grand Opera, Pacific Opera Project, and starred in Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Grapes of Wrath at Carnegie Hall.

Founded in 1994, the competition aims to celebrate and preserve all forms of classical American music.
