The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Appoints Tarmo Peltokoski as Next Music Director, Beginning 2026-27 Season

The Board of Governors of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed Tarmo Peltokoski as the Orchestra’s next Music Director, starting from the 2026-27 season. Peltokoski will succeed Jaap van Zweden and will serve a four-year term in this role, following his tenure as Music Director Designate for the 2025/26 season. He will be the ninth Music Director in the history of the HK Philharmonic.

David Cogman, Chairman of the Board of Governors and of the Music Director Search Committee, expressed his enthusiasm for Peltokoski’s appointment, describing him as a talented and forward-thinking musician who will shape the future of the orchestra.

Peltokoski himself expressed his honor and excitement about his new position, highlighting his admiration for the HK Philharmonic and his anticipation for the musical collaborations ahead with its outstanding musicians. Currently, Peltokoski holds the role of Music Director Designate at the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse for the 2024-25 season.
