Tenor Gavan Ring Takes Double Duty in Cahersiveen: Stars and Produces in 'La bohème' at the Music and Arts Festival
21 July, 2024

Tenor Gavan Ring will both star in and take on production duties for Cork Opera House’s upcoming presentation of “La bohème” at the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival. Scheduled for August 4th at the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church in Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry, audiences can anticipate Puccini’s celebrated masterpiece featuring soprano Rachel Croash as Mimì alongside Ring in the role of Rodolfo. Emma Nash will perform as Musetta, supported by Brendan Collins as Marcello, and additional roles filled by Malachy Frame, Rory Dunne, David Howes, and Éadaoin O’Donoghue. The production, under the direction of Conor Hanratty, primarily draws its talent from the “Cara O’Sullivan Associate Artist Programme,” a collective honoring the memory of the late Cork soprano. John O’Brien will conduct. Co-producing alongside Aisling Fitzgerald, Ring expressed his excitement: “Personally, this opportunity is incredibly thrilling. My journey with the Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival began at 16 in 2004 with a concert I both produced and performed in. Now, twenty years later, to be producing and singing in a nearly full-scale production of La bohème is truly surreal—a moment I could only dream of!” Moreover, this rendition of “La bohème” marks the first occasion where an entire opera will be broadcast on a local radio station in Ireland.
