San Diego Opera has announced the appointment of Ed Hofmeister as its new Director of Marketing and Communications.
In his new role, he will be responsible for expanding San Diego Opera’s outreach efforts, bringing its renowned artists, world-class productions, and impactful community programs to an even broader audience.
Hofmeister has previously held positions at the Tony Award-winning Old Globe, Lamb’s Players Theatre, and Mainly Mozart. He also served as Chief Marketing Officer for the historic Florida Grand Opera in the Southeast.
David Bennett, General Director of San Diego Opera, expressed enthusiasm about Hofmeister's return to San Diego, highlighting his extensive experience and commitment to expanding access to the performing arts, particularly in the local community. This aligns well with the opera’s mission to reach more people with the transformative power of opera, especially as it approaches its landmark 60th anniversary season.
Hofmeister commented, “I’m thrilled to be back in San Diego and honored to join David Bennett and his exceptional team at San Diego Opera. It’s an exciting opportunity, especially coinciding with the opera’s 60th anniversary season. Reflecting on the dedication of the artists and arts professionals who have contributed to this momentous occasion, I am both humbled and inspired to build upon their legacy. I look forward to engaging with audiences and introducing new individuals to this extraordinary art form.”
San Diego Opera is preparing to celebrate its 60th anniversary season with productions including Puccini’s “La Bohème,” Strauss’ “Salome,” and Verdi’s “La Traviata.”
