The Dutch National Opera is set to showcase Rudi Stephan's "Die ersten Menschen."
This opera narrates the tale of the first family in biblical human history—Adahm, Chawa, and their two sons, Kajin and Chabel.
Under the direction of Calixto Bieito, the opera places the ancient conflict in a contemporary context, reminiscent of the family dinner scenes from Luis Buñuel’s film The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. As the evening unfolds, hidden tensions rise to the surface, and the once pristine white tablecloths begin to get stained.
The cast includes soprano Annette Dasch, bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen, baritone Leigh Melrose, and tenor John Osborn, with Kwamé Ryan conducting.
The performances are scheduled for January 22, 24, 28, 30, and February 2, 2025.
