Metropolitan Opera's Grand Revival of Offenbach's 'Les Contes d'Hoffmann' Featuring Star-Studded Cast and HD Broadcast
27 August, 2024

The Metropolitan Opera is preparing to stage Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”

The production will run from September 24 to October 18, 2024, featuring French tenor Benjamin Bernheim in his acclaimed role. OperaWire has lauded Bernheim for his performances in Salzburg and Paris, describing his voice as possessing a flawless texture with a rich palette of colors, impressive technique, striking high notes, and precise diction, as well as a powerful, smooth legato.

Joining him will be mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, who will make her debut with the company as both the Muse and Nicklausse. Soprano Erin Morley returns as Olympia, with Pretty Yende taking on the roles of Antonia and Stella, and mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine portraying Giulietta.

Bass-baritone Christian Van Horn will take on the Four Villains, a role praised by OperaWire for his convincing portrayal of these malevolent characters, albeit with a touch of charm.

The production, directed by Bartlett Sher and conducted by Marco Armiliato, will be broadcast live in HD on October 5, 2024. It will also be available on Metropolitan Opera Radio via the SiriusXM app and streamed on the Met’s website on September 24 and October 18.
