Melodies of Change: Adam Hickox to Lead Glyndebourne's Autumn Opera and Concert Series with Passion and Precision
9 December, 2023

Adam Hickox is set to lead the autumn productions and concerts at the opera house. The Glyndebourne Sinfonia will serve as the resident orchestra for the opera house's autumn program of opera and concerts.

Born in 1996, the orchestra's newest leader, Adam Hickox, pursued studies in music and composition under Robin Holloway at the University of Cambridge, and in conducting under Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music.

Subsequently, he held the position of Assistant Conductor at the Rotterdam Philharmonic, working under the direction of Lahav Shani.

In recent seasons, Hickox has made notable debuts with prestigious orchestras such as Orchestre de Paris, BBC Scottish Symphony, BBC Symphony, the Ulster Orchestra, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, among others. He has also conducted productions like Tosca at Opera North and Hansel and Gretel at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire.

Hickox made his Glyndebourne debut in 2023, conducting Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, and previously held the position of assistant conductor at Glyndebourne in 2022.

Expressing his excitement about the appointment, Hickox said, "This appointment is a great honor. Being part of the Glyndebourne family is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to deepen my relationship with the fantastic orchestra and the Glyndebourne Chorus over the coming seasons."

"I felt an immediate click with the orchestra from the first rehearsal, and every time I step into the pit, I am excited to work with them once again."
