17 February, 2024

The Las Vegas Philharmonic (LVP) has recently revealed that Leonard Slatkin will take on the role of Artistic Consultant starting from the 2024/25 season. Slatkin will guide the orchestra during their search for a new Music Director after the departure of Donato Cabrera, who will step down in May 2024.

Renowned as a guest conductor, Slatkin currently holds positions such as Music Director Laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Directeur Musical Honoraire of the Orchestre National de Lyon, Conductor Laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.

With six GRAMMY Awards to his name, Slatkin's accolades also include the National Medal of Arts and the rank of Chevalier in France's Légion d'honneur.

Throughout his career, he has conducted leading orchestras worldwide and has served as Music Director in cities such as New Orleans, St. Louis, Washington, DC, London (with the BBCSO), Detroit, and Lyon.

The LVP will unveil its 2024/25 season lineup in February, with current subscribers receiving priority access to renew their seats.

"We are incredibly excited to have Leonard Slatkin bring his artistic vision and expertise to the Las Vegas Philharmonic," stated Jeri Crawford, Chair of the Board of Directors. "This partnership marks a significant milestone as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary."

Expressing his enthusiasm, Slatkin commented, "Las Vegas has been a destination close to my heart for many years. The potential for innovative concert programming, community engagement, and educational initiatives, combined with the dynamic live performance atmosphere in Las Vegas, presents an opportunity to create something truly special in our country."
