Longborough Festival Opera has chosen Emily Gottlieb as its new Executive Director starting in April 2024. Gottlieb, who previously served as Chief Executive at the National Opera Studio for nine years and spent 15 years with the Royal Opera House, is set to lead Longborough through a significant undertaking—staging Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen in the summer of 2024, infused with renewed confidence and energy.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Emily Gottlieb stated, “I'm thrilled to join the Longborough team, especially in this exciting and ambitious year where this intrepid company is mounting Wagner’s monumental Ring Cycle." She acknowledged Longborough's reputation for pushing boundaries and expressed her eagerness to work with the team in realizing the 2024 festival, along with contributing to the company's education programs and future plans.
Andrew Mosely, Chair of Longborough Festival Opera, expressed his delight at Gottlieb's appointment, emphasizing her deep understanding of opera and leadership skills. He noted her reputation within the industry and her potential to guide Longborough to new and exciting places while maintaining a commitment to core audiences.
Polly Graham, Longborough Artistic Director, welcomed Emily Gottlieb and expressed confidence that her experience would help the company grow beyond the Ring Cycle, tackling new challenges. Anthony Negus, Longborough Music Director, also welcomed Gottlieb, highlighting her Royal Opera House background and her contributions to nurturing young singers at the National Opera Studio.
Gottlieb's appointment aligns with Longborough's preparations for the ambitious staging of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in the summer of 2024, alongside a new production of Puccini’s La bohème. The company also plans to present talks, masterclasses, and a family-friendly production of The Elixir of Love in schools in the Cotswolds.
