Julio Bocca Takes the Helm at Teatro Colón Following Jorge Telerman's Departure: New Leadership Team Unveils Plans for Revitalization
25 August, 2024

After Jorge Telerman was dismissed from his position as the director of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Julio Bocca has been appointed as his replacement.

Bocca, a former ballet dancer, first joined the Compañía de Ballet de Cámara del Teatro Colón before launching a prominent international career that included performing as a soloist with the American Ballet Theater. He later returned to the Buenos Aires theater. At just 18, he earned a Gold Medal at the V International Dance Competition in Moscow and retired from dancing in 2007.

According to various news sources and the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, Bocca will work alongside Uruguayan Gerardo Grieco to oversee the institution. Grieco, who previously served as the general director of Auditorio Nacional del Sodre and as the director of Teatro Solís, is also known for creating Sala Zitarrosa. Reports indicate that Bocca and Grieco are already developing a new plan for Teatro Colón, which they intend to present in early November.

Minister of Culture Gabriela Ricardes expressed her approval of the new appointments, highlighting that the new leadership team has not only showcased their individual talents but also the ability to advance the necessary changes for Teatro Colón.
