JAM on the Marsh Festival Invites UK Composers to Attend Its First Masterclass Residency: A 2-Week Composition Course Focused on String Quartet Writing

JAM offers its first Masterclass residency and invites composers to partake in a 2-week composition course during its JAM on the Marsh festival, running 4-16 July on Kent’s Romney Marsh. Supporting new music since two thousand, this residency builds on the success of JAM's previous Masterclass Series. The free course focusses on writing for string quartet, in collaboration with the inspirational Sacconi Quartet, international composer Paul Mealor and other visitor tutors. Each composer will write a brief piece, for premiere by the Sacconi Quartet in the latest weekend of the festival. One composer will be awarded the President's Commission for JAM on the Marsh two thousand twenty-four.

JAM's summer residency is open to anyone with composition experience, aged eighteen and over and born, living or studying in the UK. Composers should be available for the full duration of the residency; 4-16 July. JAM and the Sacconi Quartet have released a series of free, brief videos on JAM's website, as an introduction to writing for string quartet, with valuable tips for composers. This string writing course includes over sixty examples of practical solutions composed by John Frederick Hudson and performed by the Sacconi Quartet.
