3 June, 2024

American Opera Projects is thrilled to unveil "House of Legendary," an exciting new chamber opera slated for PrideFest 2024.

Crafted by composer Joe Rubinstein and librettist Jason Kim, "House of Legendary" delves into the captivating narrative of drag luminary Dee Legendary and their enthralling romance with Officer John, a liaison fraught with unexpected peril. Drawing inspiration from authentic events, this opera delves into the complexities of clandestine lives and perilous desires against the backdrop of New York City's vibrant underground drag scene.

Leading the cast is Aaron-Casey Gould in the pivotal role of Dee Legendary, supported by an ensemble featuring Jordan Rutter-Covatto, Michael Kuhn, Trevor Martin, Amelia Watkins, and Kemar Jewel. Guiding the musical ensemble is the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, under the expert direction of music director and conductor Eli Spindel.

"House of Legendary" has undergone rigorous development, benefiting from workshops and support through AOP's esteemed Composers & the Voice initiative, Fort Worth Opera's Frontiers Showcase, and The Hermitage Artist Retreat. The opera's most recent semi-staged workshop, in collaboration with the Seagle Festival, was conducted in Fall 2021 with generous assistance from Opera America's Repertoire Development Award.

Audiences can experience the orchestral concert rendition of "House of Legendary" at The Tank in New York City on June 27th at 7 pm.
