Harmony Across Borders: The Symphony Orchestra of India's Enchanting UK Tour 2023
14 November, 2023

The Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), established in 2006 by Khushroo N. Suntook and renowned violinist Marat Bisengaliev, is India's first professional orchestra, located at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai.

Marking its return to the UK after 2019, the SOI is set to enchant audiences across seven cities—Coventry, London, Cambridge, Croydon, Bradford, Birmingham, and Edinburgh—from November 29 to December 10, 2023.

Conducted by Alpesh Chauhan and Richard Farnes, the orchestra will showcase the talents of guest soloists, including violinist Mara Bisengaliev, tabla player Zakir Hussain, pianist Pavel Kolesnikov, sitar player Niladri Kumar, and bansuri player Rakesh Chaurasia.

The orchestra is celebrated for its intricate performances, blending classical compositions with the rich traditions of South Asia and the West.

The UK tour will debut Hussain's Triple Concerto, featuring himself as the soloist, along with Kumar and Chaurasia in London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh.

Reflecting on the orchestra's 17th year, Suntook expressed satisfaction with the success of the Autumn 2023 Season, highlighted by the premiere of a Triple Concerto commissioned by the NCPA. The composition, featuring tabla, sitar, and bansuri played by maestros Zakir Hussain, Niladri Kumar, and Rakesh Chaurasia, contributed to one of the most successful seasons in the orchestra's living memory. Suntook and Marat Bisengaliev look forward to sharing this remarkable musical celebration with UK audiences, expressing anticipation and excitement for the upcoming tour.
