Florian Wiegand Appointed as New Intendant of Munich Philharmonic: Transitioning from Salzburg Festival to Lead Prestigious Orchestra

Florian Wiegand, currently serving as the concert director of the Salzburg Festival, has been appointed as the new intendant of the Munich Philharmonic. The city council made the announcement on July 3, 2024. Wiegand will assume his new role in the orchestra starting in the fall of 2024, officially taking over as Intendant in September 2025.

Throughout his career, Wiegand has been involved with the Konzerthaus Dortmund and established a choir academy. In 2005, he began managing artistic operations and concert planning. He is also a jury member for the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the Salzburg Festival and has been a regular instructor in the Executive Master in Arts Administration program at the University of Zurich since 2019.
