Elisabeth Linton's Contract Extended: Royal Danish Theatre Announces Continued Leadership Through 2031

The Royal Danish Theatre has decided to renew Elisabeth Linton’s contract as Artistic Director, extending her tenure until 2031.

In a statement, Kasper Holten, CEO of The Royal Danish Theatre, praised Linton’s outstanding leadership, noting that her blend of tradition and innovation has consistently resulted in high-quality performances that have been well-received by both audiences and critics. Holten expressed confidence that under Linton’s continued direction, the Royal Danish Opera will keep impressing and inspiring.

Linton herself commented, “Leading the Royal Danish Opera is both a source of inspiration and a significant responsibility, especially in these times when art feels more essential than ever. I look forward to further developing the work we’ve started with our talented artists and staff. The Royal Danish Opera must continue to be a leading force in the Nordic opera scene. I am dedicated to ensuring that our performances remain top-notch, showcasing both Danish and international talent, and making opera accessible and meaningful to everyone. I am deeply honored and thankful for the Board’s trust in me.”

Over the course of her career, Linton has served as house director and chief dramaturg at Malmö Opera, where she directed productions such as “Matilda” the Musical, “The Snow Queen,” and “Orpheus in the Underworld.”

At the Royal Danish Opera, she has directed works including “The Three Musketeers in the Wolf Valley,” “Under the Sky,” “Nabucco,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Momo and the Time Thieves,” and “La Bohème.”
