Carlo Vistoli Wins 2024 Emerging Star of the Year Title at San Francisco Opera's Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Competition

San Francisco Opera has revealed that Italian countertenor Carlo Vistoli is the winner of the 2023–24 Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Emerging Stars Competition for his American stage debut in Händel’s “Partenope.” Vistoli earned the title of 2024 Emerging Star of the Year through an online vote at sfopera.com held from July 11 to August 2, 2024, and will receive a $10,000 prize.

OperaWire praised his performance for its “dark colors and liquid velvet,” calling it the most beautiful voice of the night. Vistoli expressed his excitement and gratitude, highlighting his love for Handel and his admiration for his director and conductor. He also thanked the San Francisco audience for their warmth and support. Vistoli was among 12 nominees for the competition, supported by the Emerging Stars Fund. This season, he will perform at renowned venues including Teatro alla Scala and the Royal Opera House.
