The Canadian Opera Company has announced its upcoming presentation of Alban Berg's "Wozzeck" featuring William Kentridge's acclaimed production. Audiences will have seven opportunities to experience this performance at Toronto's Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, with shows scheduled between April 25 and May 16, 2025.
This particular staging of "Wozzeck" has already garnered significant praise during its runs at both the Salzburg Festival and Metropolitan Opera. OperaWire particularly commended the production, stating it "is the perfect companion to this opera in its complexity and ability to pack so much information into such a small space."
Under the baton of Johannes Debus, the COC's Music Director, the COC Orchestra will support a distinguished cast. Michael Kupfer-Radecky will perform the challenging title role, with Ambur Braid portraying Marie and Michael Schade taking on the role of the Captain.
The ensemble will be further strengthened by the talents of Anthony Robin Schneider, Matthew Cairns, Krisztina Szabó, Owen McCausland, Michael Colvin, Duncan Stenhouse, and Korin Thomas-Smith.
