The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra has welcomed a new contrabassoonist, Samuel Watson, hailing from Texas. At a mere age of 20, Watson takes over the position previously held by the retired Gregg Henegar.
For the past year, Watson has been honing his musical skills as a member of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. While he may be the youngest current player in Boston, he doesn't hold the record for the youngest ever. That distinction belongs to Roger Voisin, who joined the trumpet section back in 1935 at the tender age of 17.
