World Premiere of The Pigeon Keeper: A New Opera Exploring Memory, Loss, and Connection at the Cowell Theater

Opera Parallèle will debut the world premiere of the co-commissioned opera, The Pigeon Keeper, created by composer David Hanlon and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. This new work will be performed three times at the Cowell Theater in the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture from March 7 to 9, 2025.

The opera is a one-act production with several scenes and will be performed without intermission. The ensemble cast will feature soprano Angela Yam, tenor Bernard Holcomb, and baritone Craig Irvin. Nicole Paiement will conduct the performance, while Brian Staufenbiel will direct. The staging, led by Staufenbiel, will include immersive designs that reflect the opera’s emotional depth, while Paiement’s conducting will bring the evocative score to life with precision and passion.

Each performance will be preceded by a pre-performance lecture, offering insight into the opera’s themes and creative process. The Pigeon Keeper explores themes of memory, loss, and human connection, blending emotional depth with striking visuals. This captivating production promises to be an unforgettable addition to the contemporary opera scene.
