Ópera de Tenerife is preparing to showcase Giuseppe Verdi’s seldom-seen masterpiece, “Giovanna d’Arco.” This production, originally staged by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, will be brought to life under the baton of conductor Lukasz Borowicz, with Emilio López overseeing the revival’s direction.
The performances are scheduled for the Sala Sinfónica on March 25, 27, and 29, featuring Yolanda Auyanet as the titular Giovanna d’Arco, Airam Hernández portraying Carlo VII, and Juan Jesús Rodríguez taking on the role of Giacomo. Completing the ensemble are Vazgen Gazaryan and Gabriel Álvarez.
This season, the company has already delighted audiences with “Madama Butterfly,” “Die Fledermaus,” and “Trouble in Tahiti.” It will conclude its current run with an upcoming staging of “Parsifal.”
Following the conclusion of “Parsifal,” Ópera de Tenerife plans to take a brief hiatus before launching into its next season, which promises an equally compelling lineup. Behind the scenes, the company is already working diligently to secure talented performers and innovative directors to maintain its reputation for delivering high-quality operatic experiences.
For “Giovanna d’Arco,” the production team has emphasized a historically inspired approach, aiming to capture the intensity of Verdi’s vision while adapting it for contemporary audiences. Rehearsals are well underway, with the cast and crew focusing on blending powerful vocals with striking visuals to honor the opera’s dramatic narrative. Tickets for the March performances are selling quickly, reflecting the growing anticipation among opera enthusiasts eager to witness this rare gem in the Sala Sinfónica.
