Enchanting Holidays: The Metropolitan Opera Presents Mozart's "The Magic Flute"

The Metropolitan Opera is preparing to showcase its annual holiday performance of Julie Taymor’s English-language version of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”

The opera will run for 17 performances from December 12 to January 4.

This production features tenor Duke Kim and soprano Aigul Khismatullina, along with Kathryn Lewek, who holds the record for appearing 65 times at the Met as the Queen of the Night.

On December 12, soprano Hera Hyesang Park and tenor David Portillo will lead the opening cast as Pamina and Tamino, respectively. The cast also includes baritone Will Liverman as Papageno, bass Soloman Howard as Sarastro, tenor Rodell Rosel as Monostatos, and bass William Guanbo Su as the Speaker, all reprising their previous roles at the Met.

On December 13, soprano Emily Pogorelc will make her Met debut as Pamina, performing alongside Kim as Tamino. Bass Peixin Chen will portray Sarastro, while baritone Sean Michael Plumb and bass-baritone Le Bu will debut as Papageno and the Speaker, respectively.

On December 14 at 10 a.m., families and children are invited to attend the Met’s Holiday Open House, featuring engaging behind-the-scenes demonstrations from the Met’s backstage and artistic teams.

Conducting duties will be shared by Nimrod David Pfeffer and J. David Jackson.

“The Magic Flute” will also be broadcast on December 12, 18, 21, and 27 via the SiriusXM app.
