Teatro alla Scala to Broadcast Bellini’s “Norma” on Streaming Platform
Червень 12, 2025

On July 4, 2025, Teatro alla Scala will present a live stream of Vincenzo Bellini’s opera “Norma” on its La Scala TV platform. The production, directed by Olivier Py, will feature Marina Rebeka in the lead role, with Freddie De Tommaso as Pollione, Michele Pertusi as Oroveso, and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya as Adalgisa. Fabio Luisi will lead the orchestra for this new staging.

The opera has been absent from La Scala’s stage since 1977, when Gianandrea Gavezzeni conducted a production featuring Montserrat Caballé. “Norma” first graced the iconic theater in 1831, with performances by Giuditta Pasta, Giulia Grisi, and Domenico Donzelli. It was later performed by Maria Callas on the Piermarini stage in 1952 and 1955.

The run of “Norma” begins on June 27 and continues until July 17, 2025.

This highly anticipated revival marks a significant moment for La Scala, as “Norma” is one of Bellini’s most celebrated works, renowned for its demanding vocal roles and emotional depth. Olivier Py’s new production promises a fresh interpretation, blending innovative staging with the opera’s timeless narrative of love, duty, and sacrifice. Marina Rebeka, known for her powerful and nuanced performances, is expected to bring a compelling portrayal to the challenging role of the Druid priestess Norma. The cast is complemented by De Tommaso’s lyrical intensity as Pollione, Pertusi’s authoritative presence as Oroveso, and Berzhanskaya’s rich mezzo-soprano as Adalgisa, under the expert baton of Luisi, whose experience with bel canto repertoire ensures a musically vibrant performance.

Tickets for the live performances at Teatro alla Scala are available through the theater’s official website, with options for both in-person attendance and access to the July 4 stream on La Scala TV. The broadcast aims to reach a global audience, offering opera enthusiasts worldwide the chance to experience this historic production from one of the world’s premier opera houses.
