Guild Hall has announced that Susan Stroman, an award-winning director and choreographer, will take on the role of President of the Guild Hall Academy of the Arts.

Stroman succeeds Eric Fischl, the current president, who is stepping down after a significant and influential tenure. Fischl expressed his excitement about Stroman’s appointment, stating, “It’s an honor to hand over the position of Academy President to Susan Stroman, a five-time Tony Award-winning director, producer, and choreographer. Get ready for an incredible journey!”

Stroman, who has won five Tony Awards® as a director and choreographer, has received numerous other accolades, including Olivier, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel, and six Astaire Awards. For a decade, she choreographed the annual production of “A Christmas Carol” at Madison Square Garden and made her Metropolitan Opera debut directing and choreographing “The Merry Widow,” starring Renée Fleming.

Stroman shared her excitement about her new role: “I’m truly honored to accept the position of President of the Academy of the Arts at Guild Hall. As someone who has always supported the arts as a director and choreographer, I’m excited to continue this tradition by leading the esteemed Guild Hall Academy. Guild Hall has been a cultural hub for East Hampton since 1931. Today, its Academy, with 250 members, serves as a resource for talent in its programs and provides mentorship to resident artists and younger local artists, continuing the region’s rich legacy as one of the country’s most renowned art colonies.
