The Sydney Festival has decided to cancel the inaugural Summerground music festival, which was originally planned to take place at Tumbalong Park from January 5-7. This major decision comes as a result of shifting consumer behaviors, the rising cost of living, and increasing operational expenses, according to a statement released by the Sydney Festival.

The eclectic 3-day lineup, featuring electronic, blues, funk, and reggae genres with performances by The Teskey Brothers, King Stingray, Electric Fields, Cimafunk, Queen Omega, and The Brand New Heavies, will no longer be taking place. The statement acknowledges the impact of these challenges on large music festivals nationwide, and unfortunately, Summerground was not exempt.

Sydney Festival expressed its gratitude to the understanding of Summerground artists and announced a full refund for patrons who had already purchased tickets. Despite the cancellation, the festival remains dedicated to the essence of live music and assures the audience of a diverse range of musical offerings in the 2024 program, showcasing the rich talent of the local music scene.
