Santa Fe Symphony News:

The Santa Fe Symphony kicks off its 40th Season at 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W San Francisco St. in Santa Fe, with Showcase of the Stars—a magnificent program showcasing the talent of its Symphony Orchestra and renowned pianist Anne-Marie McDermott performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The concert also features a spectacular performance of one of Mozart’s greatest compositions—his 40th Symphony.

Holst’s Planet presents HIMARI, the youngest ever 15th International Competition for Young Violinists Grand Prize winner (Lublin 2021). At just 12 years of age, she joins her teacher and renowned soloist Ida Kavafian for Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, plus a solo performance of Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in F-Sharp Minor. The Santa Fe Symphony: Handel’s Messiah

George Frideric Handel’s glorious Messiah is a landmark oratorio, with soaring arias, memorable choruses, and a hallmark Baroque flourish. This beloved masterwork is perhaps one of the most enduring messages of hope in the orchestral and choral repertoire. Don’t miss The Symphony’s annual performance at The Lensic—a Santa Fe tradition and a musical rite of the holiday season—conducted by Maestro Thomas Heuser and featuring the full Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with choral direction by Carmen Flórez-Mansi. Recipient of a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant, violinist Alexi Kenney was named “a talent to watch” by The New York Times. He has earned widespread acclaim across the globe and returns to Santa Fe in February 2024 performing Barber’s Violin Concerto No. 1 for “American Classics.” The program also features works by Bernstein, Copland, and Gina Flagello. In Celebration of Earth Day and presented in partnership with WildEarth Guardians, Oceana presents Native American composer Jerod Tate’s Chokfi’ (Rabbit), Handel’s Water Music, and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, introducing cellist Gabriel Martins, 2020 Sphinx Competition First Prize winner.
