Robert Moody currently serves as the principal conductor of Lakeland Opera in Florida and holds the positions of music director at Arizona Musicfest and Memphis Symphony. During his tenure at Memphis Symphony, he has overseen significant growth in programming, recordings, new commissions, and the endowment, which now exceeds $25 million.

Starting in the 2024/25 concert season, Moody will also assume the role of music director with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra under a three-year contract, while maintaining all of his current conducting responsibilities.

Previously, Moody has served as music director for the Portland Symphony in Maine and the Winston-Salem Symphony in North Carolina. His extensive career includes conducting roles with orchestras such as the Phoenix Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, and engagements with prestigious ensembles worldwide including the Chicago Symphony and L.A. Philharmonic.

Moody frequently collaborates with renowned artists like Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, and has recorded various works, including Stephenson’s Concerto for Hope with trumpeter Ryan Anthony.

His upcoming season highlights include conducting engagements with orchestras in South Africa, Shenzhen Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Chattanooga Symphony/Opera, Billings Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

Originally from South Carolina, Moody holds degrees from Furman University and the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under Donald Neuen.
