Renowned German conductor and violinist Thomas Hengelbrock is set to take over from Lars Vogt, who led the Orchestre de chambre de Paris from the summer of 2020 until his passing in September 2022.
Hengelbrock is the founder of the Balthasar Neumann Choir and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, earning international acclaim for more than twenty-five years. As a guest conductor, he has collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Vienna and Munich Philharmonics, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.
His notable roles include serving as the principal conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg from 2011 to 2018 and as the conductor of the Orchestre de Paris from 2015 to 2017.
Hengelbrock received the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize in 2016 for his contributions to music education. Additionally, he has been a dedicated supporter of KinderPaCT, an organization focused on providing palliative care to terminally ill children.
Expressing their excitement, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris shared on Facebook, "We are thrilled about the arrival of Thomas Hengelbrock and the diverse opportunities for collaboration with Balthasar Neumann Ensembles! We are aligned in our artistic and social commitment within the European context."
