Paris Opera Prepares for Major Renovations: A New Era for Iconic Venues
Листопад 2, 2024

The Paris Opera has announced that both of its opera houses will undergo renovations and will close temporarily.

The Palais Garnier, which is nearly 150 years old, is set to close in mid-2027 for two years of renovations. Following that, the Opera Bastille, which opened in 1989, will shut down in mid-2030.

The total cost of renovating both venues is expected to exceed 200 million euros by 2030. During the renovation period, one venue will remain open while performances are held at other locations in France and the city. According to the company, the renovations aim to "modernize their stage infrastructure."

A recent report from the Court of Accounts noted that both buildings are "aging" and have suffered from "long-standing underfunding."

Currently, the Paris Opera is staging performances of “La Fille du Regiment” and “The Magic Flute.”
