Opera for All: GNO's Ninth Year Tradition of Inclusive Access Continues with Tosca
Травень 31, 2024

For the ninth year running, the Greek National Opera (GNO) has continued its tradition of offering complimentary tickets to unemployed Greek citizens, granting them access to an opera performance at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The initiative aims to democratize opera, making it inclusive to all.

A total of 1,500 tickets were provided free of charge for the dress rehearsal of Giacomo Puccini’s renowned opera, Tosca, scheduled for May 31 at 9 PM at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Distribution took place at GNO’s Box Office in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on May 29 and 30, 2024, from 11 AM to 8 PM, until all tickets were allocated. Each holder of an unemployment card or certificate was eligible to receive up to two tickets.

Tosca, a gripping operatic drama, is celebrated as a cornerstone of the operatic repertoire. According to Tornos News, GNO’s rendition of Tosca will inaugurate the Athens-Epidaurus Festival 2024 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

The production will be helmed by Lukas Karytinos, the Artistic Director of the Athens State Orchestra, with direction, stage design, and costumes by the esteemed director Hugo de Ana. Katerina Petsatodi, GNO’s Stage Manager responsible for bringing Tosca to life, will contribute to the production alongside a diverse cast of Greek and international soloists in pivotal roles.

Due to overwhelming ticket demand, GNO has added a fifth performance of Tosca, extending the production's run to June 1, 2, 4, 6, and 11, 2024.
