Britten Pears Arts has announced the schedule for its Autumn 2024 season, focusing exclusively on opera and vocal performances.

A masterclass led by soprano Claire Booth and conductor Jonathan Berman features singers and instrumentalists from the Composition and Performance course presenting Schoenberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” on September 17, 2024 at the Peter Pears Recital Room.

On September 22, 2024, the “End of Course Concert: Composition and Performance” will highlight pieces by composers from the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, including excerpts from “Pierrot Lunaire” at the Britten Studio.

October 11, 2024 sees Judith Weir’s “Blond Eckbert,” starring Alex Otterburn, Aoife Miskelly, Flora McIntosh, and William Morgan, paired with “Do Not Take my Story for a Fairytale,” featuring song cycles and cantatas exploring themes of love and nature, conducted by Gerry Cornelius with direction by Robin Norton-Hale at Snape Maltings Concert Hall.

Olivia Fuchs directs English Touring Opera’s production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Snowmaiden” on October 12, 2024, featuring a cast conducted by Hannah Quinn and recorded for streaming into schools nationwide in partnership with Norfolk & Suffolk Music Hub.

November 2, 2024, at Orford Church, the Britten Pears Chamber Choir presents choral mass settings by Britten, Kodály, and Tavener spanning five centuries.

November 3, 2024, at The Red House, mezzo-soprano Mathilde Ortscheidt and pianist Juliette Journaux perform works by Mahler, Britten, and Elgar.

“In Somnia” on November 8, 2024, at The Red House features mezzo-soprano Marta Fontanals-Simmons and pianist Lana Bode performing song cycles by Frederic Mompou and Ethel Smyth alongside compositions from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Ben Vonberg-Clark conducts the Scratch Choir in Fauré’s “Requiem” on November 9, 2024, at Snape Maltings Concert Hall.

A recital commemorating Benjamin Britten’s birthday on November 22, 2024, at The Red House features soprano Francesca Chiejina, mezzo-soprano Bethany Horak-Hallett, and pianist Natalie Birch presenting songs from their album “Our Indifferent Century.”

On December 7, 2024, at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Anna Lapwood conducts the Chapel Choir of Pembroke College, Cambridge in Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” and a new work by Kristina Arakelyan, “Angel of Light.”

Holiday festivities continue on December 14, 2024, at Snape Maltings Concert Hall with soprano Laura Wright, pianist Dan Moriyama, percussionist Lauren Kosty, guitarist Andy Moore, the Britten Pears Chamber Choir, and The Band of the Royal British Legion, Leiston.

Howard Blake’s “The Snowman” will be performed on December 15, 2024, at Snape Maltings Concert Hall by the Suffolk Ensemble and young singers including Group A, conducted by Ben Parry.

The Scratch Choir returns for a concert of festive repertoire on December 18, 2024, at the Britten Studio under the baton of Ben Vonberg-Clark.
