Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra has named Henry Kennedy, a conductor originally from Nova Scotia, as its new Resident Conductor. Kennedy, who has spent much of his career in the United Kingdom, is already well-regarded at just 27 years old, boasting experience in both opera and orchestral music.

Kennedy's impressive resume includes performances at prestigious venues such as the Wroclaw Opera, Berlioz Festival, Salzburg Festival, The Royal Opera of Versailles, Berliner Philharmonie, and BBC Proms. His upcoming engagement conducting "Tosca" in Italy with Orchestra Cherubini commemorates the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death.

In his statement, Kennedy expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception he received from the orchestra during auditions, particularly noting the electric response during his rendition of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony's first movement. He looks forward to joining the National Arts Centre Orchestra, emphasizing the unique opportunity to collaborate with world-class musicians and enrich Canada’s cultural landscape, specifically in Ottawa.

Music Director Alexander Shelley enthusiastically welcomed Kennedy to the artistic team, praising his technical prowess and thoughtful approach to community engagement through music. Kennedy's new role as Resident Conductor, spanning two years, will include working closely with guest conductors, assisting Principal Guest Conductor John Storgårds, and collaborating with Principal Youth Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser as part of his professional development under Shelley's mentorship.
