New Zealand soprano Felicity Tomkins has been awarded the 2024 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship. A graduate of the New Zealand Opera School and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Tomkins previously debuted at Wigmore Hall. Along with the $43,000 scholarship, she also receives a $3,000 cash prize and career advancement opportunities, including language and stagecraft coaching.
Tomkins expressed her excitement and gratitude for winning this esteemed award. The second-place prize of $18,000 went to Sydney Conservatorium of Music soprano Molly Ryan. The competition, which began in 1933 as the "Sun Aria," is the festival's longest-running event.
