Грудень 3, 2024

The Premiere Opera Foundation has introduced the "Marcello Giordani Prize" as part of its International Vocal Competition.

According to the competition, this new award, worth $5,000, will be presented to a tenor who demonstrates outstanding artistry and vocal potential in the lyric lirico-spinto repertoire, a style that defined the illustrious career of Sicilian-Italian tenor Marcello Giordani. Giordani was known for his brilliant, piercing high notes that captivated audiences globally.

The prize honors Giordani's legacy by encouraging young tenors to continue the tradition of exceptional Italian tenor singing.

The prize is supported by Giordani’s widow, Wilma Aherns Giordani, his vocal coach, Bill Schuman, music director and soprano Christina Vial, tenor Michael Fabiano, and tenor Stephen Costello.

Marcello Giordani, who passed away at 56 in 2019, was celebrated for his performances in leading roles of Italian and French operatic works. He had a distinguished career with the Metropolitan Opera, where he performed in over 240 productions.
