Metropolitan Museum of Art and VisionIntoArt Unveil 'Primero Sueño': A Musical Journey Through Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz's Poetic Universe
Липень 14, 2024

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and VisionIntoArt have announced their collaboration to produce Paola Prestini’s “Primero Sueño” in 2025. This adaptation is based on Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz’s renowned poem of the same title, first published in 1692. The composition explores Sor Juana’s intellectual journey, tracing her thoughts as she dreams and awakens, grappling with themes of mysticism, feminism, and the natural world.

The production will be staged at The Met Cloisters and features jazz artist Magos Herrera in the role of Sor Juana, accompanied by the ensemble Sjaella portraying both nuns and various vivid elements from the poem. Louisa Proske will direct the production, with choreography by Jorrell Lawyer-Jefferson, and costume design by Andrea Lauer. The Metropolitan Museum of Art commissioned the work, which will be co-produced by VisionIntoArt.
