Martin Glaser Appointed New General Director of Prague National Theatre, Set to Take Over in 2028
Лютий 10, 2025

Martin Glaser has been appointed as the new general director of the Prague National Theatre.

Currently, Glaser serves as the general director of the National Theatre in Brno (NdB). He is set to take over in Prague in August 2028, succeeding Jan Burian in the role.

Joining Glaser in Prague will be Jiri Herman, who will lead the opera company, and Mario Radacovsky, who will take charge of the ballet ensemble. Glaser also plans to bring Patricie Castkova from Brno to become the chief program manager. He intends to maintain an open dialogue with the current artistic directors of the drama company, Lukas Trpisovsky and Martin Kukucka, and is considering redefining the mission of Laterna Magika.

During the remainder of his tenure, Burian will continue overseeing the reconstruction of the New Stage and will also head the transformation of the theatre into a public cultural institution.

“I am very grateful that the selection committee invited me to participate in the competition for the position of director of our leading theatre,” Glaser said in a press release. “This was a significant prompt for my thinking because leaving Brno will not be easy for me. My work here gives me great meaning, and the collective results fill me with happiness. Given the timeline, I will also be able to complete my third term as head of NdB, which was an important factor in my decision-making. While I know that NdB still has tremendous potential thanks to its dedicated staff, I have ultimately concluded that after 15 years, it is time for a new impulse for the theatre, and that I can and should make a career change once again.”
