Жовтень 27, 2023

In different terms, the museum is showcasing fascinating objects related to Maria Callas's life, including items like her notebooks and a strand of her hair.

A new museum dedicated to the celebrated Greek-American soprano Maria Callas has recently been inaugurated in Athens. The museum's opening was intentionally synchronized with the centennial commemorations of Callas's birth.

Among the items exhibited are various personal belongings such as Callas's prescription glasses, costumes, and a notebook she used for memorizing her roles.

The Maria Callas Greek Society has also contributed several intriguing items, including a sketch of a design created for Callas by the renowned shoemaker Manolo Blahnik. Additionally, the society donated a lock of hair that once belonged to Callas and was preserved by her hairdresser before being sold at an auction.

The top level of the museum recreates a room from her apartment in Paris, complete with an imaginary forest and a recording studio. Visitors can listen to recordings of Callas's live performances and view video clips of her lessons at The Juilliard School.

Museum supervisor Erato Koutsoudaki explained, "Our primary focus is to engage the general visitor who may not be well-versed in opera but might have heard of Maria Callas. We encourage them to start by immersing themselves in spaces where they can experience her iconic arias from the great operas through listening and watching. Afterward, they can delve deeper into understanding who this remarkable woman was and why she was significant, in the lower floors designed more like a conventional museum."
